The police bulletin indicates that 37-year-old Fernando Teles Pereira, a Brazilian national, is wanted for Centeno’s murder, which reportedly occurred on February 20 at Diamond on the East Bank of Demerara. Pereira’s last known residences are in both Guyana and Brazil.
Centeno’s mother, Yuhengris Gerdez, expressed her anguish through social media, asserting her daughter was consistently in contact and would never simply vanish. Gerdez stated, “I’m a desperate mother wanting to know what happened, what happened to my daughter.”
A family member noted that after visiting the police station, they reviewed CCTV footage showing Centeno wearing a pink striped top and dark blue jeans. The young woman went missing around 9:30 AM on February 20, last seen after boarding a truck driven by the suspect at Diamond, East Bank Demerara.
Typically, Centeno would stay with a friend following late shifts at a bar before returning home. However, on that fateful day, she was waiting for a ride when the suspect’s vehicle arrived, after which there was no communication from her.
As the family awaits results from the forensic analysis, it has been confirmed that clothing found alongside the remains resembles what Centeno wore when last seen. Reports also indicate that the skeletal remains exhibited the presence of braces, similar to those Centeno had been wearing, along with jewelry.
The family is now demanding justice as the police actively pursue the suspect. They emphasized their unfamiliarity with Pereira, highlighting their distress over the situation. “It is not easy to know that someone kidnapped your daughter and then to find out that she is dead. We want them to find the man that did this to her and let him face the consequences for his actions,” a family member remarked.
