Renault Group Morocco has created Renault Technology Morocco (RTMA), appointing Francisco José Martín Hernández as its Director General. The center will focus on technological activities from its Tetouan headquarters and industrial operations from the Tangier facility. The company has seen record production and strong market presence, enhancing its status as the largest private enterprise in Morocco.

Renault Group Morocco has announced the establishment of Renault Technology Morocco (RTMA), an engineering center directed by Francisco José Martín Hernández, effective March 1. The center will operate primarily from two sites: a headquarters in Tetouan, focusing on technological activities, and a facility within the Renault plant in Tangier, which will concentrate on industrial operations. This configuration aims to foster collaboration between engineering and manufacturing departments while maintaining proximity to production sites.

Hernández will report directly to Cedric Combemorel, Deputy CTO – VP Global Engineering & Tech, with a functional reporting line to Mohamed Bachiri, Director General of Renault Group Morocco. The company highlighted Hernández’s extensive experience, indicating that his previous roles across Spain, Romania, and France have equipped him to address the group’s unique challenges effectively.

An accomplished industrial engineer, Hernández graduated from the Polytechnic University of Madrid and École Centrale de Lyon. He joined Renault in 2002, holding significant positions in quality engineering and project management across various divisions, including mechanical and vehicle engineering. Most recently, he served as Head of Vehicle Engineering at Renault Technology Spain since 2021.

The establishment of RTMA coincides with Renault Group Morocco’s strong operational performance, achieving record production of 413,614 vehicles in 2024, reflecting an 8% increase from 2023. The Tangier plant produced 312,381 units, marking a 9% rise, while Casablanca’s SOMACA plant exceeded production of 100,000 vehicles for the first time, totaling 101,233 units, which is a 7% increase.

The group’s export performance has also been notable, with approximately 370,165 vehicles shipped to 68 destinations in 2024. The Tangier plant accounted for 298,045 units, translating to 95% of its production, while Casablanca exported 72,120 vehicles, representing 71% of its total output. In Morocco’s domestic market, Renault maintained a robust market share of 16.1%, with 28,348 vehicles sold, while Dacia led with a 25% market share, selling 39,330 units.

Renault Group Morocco generated a turnover of MAD 63 billion (approximately $6.3 billion), affirming its position as the largest private enterprise in the country, with its automotive ecosystem contributing 38% of the sector’s total turnover and providing employment for over 10,000 individuals.

In summary, the establishment of Renault Technology Morocco marks a significant development for Renault Group Morocco, enhancing its engineering capabilities and fostering closer ties between engineering and manufacturing operations. With a record production performance and robust market presence, Renault Group Morocco continues to solidify its position as a leader in the automotive industry within the region. The appointment of Francisco José Martín Hernández reflects the company’s commitment to leveraging experienced leadership for future growth and innovation.
