Morocco is experiencing notable improvements in weather, with the return of rainfall after months of drought. Meteorologists predict further rain, thunderstorms, and snowfall throughout March due to the weakening of high-pressure systems. Significant rainfall is particularly expected this weekend, benefitting central regions such as Marrakech and Souss.

Following an extended period of dry weather and elevated temperatures, Morocco is now witnessing a significant shift in weather patterns, marked by the return of rainfall across various regions. This change comes after months of unprecedented drought, which left many areas parched and in need of relief.

Houcine Youabed, Head of Communications at the General Directorate of Meteorology, indicated that the country is currently experiencing a notable seasonal transition. He attributed the recent weather changes to a diminishing high-pressure system, which has allowed for the movement of low-pressure systems, facilitating rainfall, particularly throughout March.

He elaborated that the easing of the high-pressure blockage has resulted in thunderstorms and snowfall in certain regions, starting last week. Youabed emphasized that he anticipates continuous weather disturbances, with the northern and central areas expected to experience significant rain, particularly on Thursday, alongside thunderstorms and snowfall in regions like Tiznit.

As the week advances, a temporary improvement in weather conditions is predicted for Friday; however, a more intense low-pressure system is forecasted for the weekend. This system is expected to deliver substantial rainfall throughout Saturday and Sunday, impacting most regions and bringing strong winds to the northern and central coastlines.

The central regions have already begun to receive rain, with further intensification anticipated over the weekend, especially in the Marrakech and Souss areas. It is noteworthy that these weather disturbances were notably absent during December and January, when the Azores High obstructed low-pressure systems from reaching Morocco, while parts of western Europe profited from considerable rainfall.

In summary, Morocco is shifting from an extended drought to a period of significant rainfall, as evidenced by changing weather patterns throughout the month of March. The easing of the high-pressure system has facilitated this transition, leading to expectations of thunderstorms, continued precipitation, and relief across various regions. As weather disturbances continue, both short- and long-term forecasts indicate improved conditions for the affected areas.
