Investigation Reveals Financial Exploitation in Alleged Murder of Scottish Businessman in Kenya
Campbell Scott, a businessman from Fife, was allegedly murdered in Kenya, with £12,000 withdrawn from his bank account by suspected killers. Detectives investigating the alleged murder of Campbell Scott, a 58-year-old businessman from Dunfermline, Fife, have reported that approximately £12,000, or two million Kenyan Shillings, was withdrawn from his bank account following his death. Scott’s body was discovered on February 23, six days after he was last seen in Nairobi, in a forest clearing, bound and with visible injuries.
Two suspects, Alex Mutua Kithuka and Albunus Mutinda Nzioki, have been charged in connection with Scott’s death and are accused of using his bank cards posthumously. Neither the victim’s cards nor his mobile phone have been recovered as the investigation continues. Scott was in Kenya for a work trip when he went missing just after checking in at the JW Marriott hotel on February 15.
CCTV footage captured Scott leaving Havana Bar with an unidentified man prior to being seen in the Pipeline slum, an area notorious for crime and vice. Investigators suspect he was tortured for his bank details before being murdered, with his body ultimately concealed in a green sack in the forest.
The post-mortem examination failed to establish a definitive cause of death, though it revealed that head injuries were not fatal. Court documents suggest deterioration in the circumstances that led to his murder, indicating he was taken to Kithuka’s residence in Pipeline estate before being killed and disposed of in Makongo forest.
While an initially arrested taxi driver has testified his involvement was not criminal, he has corroborated that he dropped Scott off at Kithuka’s residence. Kithuka is currently at large, reportedly withdrawing funds from Scott’s accounts before being apprehended in the port city of Mombasa, approximately 300 miles south-east of Nairobi.
