A 73-year-old Dutch man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison in Kenya for ten counts involving child pornography, sexual communication with minors, and child abuse. He faces a fine of Ksh3 million and will be deported after serving his sentence. Evidence included the solicitation of sexual acts from minors and directing others to engage in similar misconduct.

The Milimani Children’s Court in Kenya has sentenced a 73-year-old Dutch national to 10 years in prison after he was found guilty of multiple offenses, including ten counts of child pornography, sexual communication with minors, indecent acts with children, and child abuse. The conviction includes six counts of child pornography, two counts of sexual communication with a child, one count of an indecent act, and one count of child abuse, as stated by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).

Evidence presented revealed that the suspect used WhatsApp to expose a 17-year-old minor to obscene materials in an effort to solicit sexual acts. He also engaged a 16-year-old minor in sexual communications and committed indecent acts with that child, which included touching the minor inappropriately while on the same bed as the child’s mother, with whom he had a relationship. Additionally, he was involved in directing another individual to engage in sexual activities with underage girls and to capture nude photos and videos of these acts.

The offenses occurred between April 2022 and November 2023, and the prosecution successfully provided overwhelming evidence against the accused during the trial. Honorable Judge Alice Macharia noted, “each charge has been proved both individually and collectively beyond reasonable doubt.” The court also imposed a monetary restitution of Ksh3 million and mandated the deportation of the convicted individual following the completion of his sentence. A total of nine witnesses corroborated the allegations during the trial.

In summary, the case highlights serious violations of child protection laws, culminating in a significant prison sentence and fines imposed on a perpetrator of child exploitation. With the comprehensive evidence presented, the court confirmed a strong commitment to addressing and prosecuting such offenses. The deportation order further emphasizes the judiciary’s stance on safeguarding minors and ensuring accountability for offenders within its jurisdiction.
