Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has announced that the body of Samuel Kaetuai, a police officer killed in Haiti, will be repatriated to Kenya for burial. This comes after Kaetuai was fatally shot during a security operation on February 23, 2025, making him the first Kenyon police officer to lose his life in the ongoing mission in Haiti. Kanja confirmed that all arrangements have been made, and the body is expected to arrive in Kenya this week.
During his visit to Kaetuai’s family in Naserian village, Kajiado East, Inspector General Kanja referred to the fallen officer as a hero who made the ultimate sacrifice for the cause of global peace. He assured the grieving family of the government’s support during this difficult time and emphasized that the late officer would receive a proper send-off with all burial expenses covered by the government.
Kanja remarked, “We have lost a young man who had sacrificed himself for the sake of global peace. He died while helping restore peace in Haiti and protecting the people’s rights.” He was accompanied by Deputy Inspector General Eliud Lang’at, Deputy Inspector General Gilbert Masengeli, and various other leaders, all of whom conveyed their condolences to the bereaved family.
Samuel Kaetuai was only 28 years old and had joined the police service in 2021. He was part of a contingent of 600 Kenyan officers deployed to Haiti under the Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS). His father, Kaetuai Salaash, expressed deep sorrow over his son’s tragic death, labeling it as a significant loss to the family and community. Salaash described his son as a caring and responsible individual who took great care of his family.
Inspector General Douglas Kanja has pledged government support to the family of fallen officer Samuel Kaetuai, emphasizing the need to honor his sacrifice and legacy. As the first Kenyan police officer to perish in Haiti since the mission’s inception, Kaetuai’s life and service will not be forgotten. He is remembered not only for his dedication but also for the impact he made in the pursuit of global peace.
