The Racing Association of Maldives has been granted membership in the FIA, allowing for significant opportunities in promoting motorsports domestically. This includes access to international resources and infrastructure development, alongside commitments to road safety awareness and athlete training. Despite facing challenges, RAM continues to compete internationally and grow its presence in motorsport.

The Racing Association of Maldives (RAM) has recently achieved membership with the International Automobile Federation (FIA), a significant milestone for the organization. This membership was approved during a vote at the FIA Annual General Meeting held in Rwanda on December 13, 2022. RAM expressed that this affiliation opens a wealth of opportunities to advance motorsports within the Maldives.

With FIA membership, RAM gains access to invaluable resources, international recognition, and expertise previously unavailable in the Maldives. This includes the ability to ensure that local competitions adhere to international standards, gain entry to FIA development programs, and participate in global competitions. The association is also poised to enhance motorsport infrastructure by developing specialized areas such as racetracks and training centers, while promoting environmentally sustainable practices.

In addition to infrastructure development, RAM committed to collaborating with local agencies to raise awareness regarding road safety and to facilitate training opportunities for motorsport athletes throughout the nation. Since its establishment in 2018, RAM has successfully hosted various tournaments and received significant support from industry stakeholders. However, the association faced challenges, particularly when its 2024 RAAS Championship was halted by authorities in December due to regulatory issues. Despite these setbacks, RAM athletes have participated in international competitions, notably reaching the semi-finals of the Drag Wars in Sri Lanka this year.

In summary, the Racing Association of Maldives has gained FIA membership, which presents substantial opportunities for the growth of motorsports in the country. This affiliation provides access to international expertise and resources, while also allowing RAM to enhance local competitions and infrastructure. Nevertheless, the association continues to face regulatory challenges, yet it remains determined to promote the sport and develop its athletes.
