Recently, 12 of the 16 Pakistani victims of a tragic boat capsizing off Libya were repatriated, with nine from Parachinar transported by helicopter to their hometown for burial. The tragic loss of 16 Pakistani lives in a boat capsizing off the coast of Libya has profoundly impacted their families. On February 5, the migrants’ vessel capsized, leading to an overwhelming sense of grief among the victims’ relatives. The Pakistani Foreign Office reported that 16 individuals lost their lives, with 13 hailing from Parachinar.

The bodies of 12 victims were returned to Pakistan, arriving at Islamabad Airport via Qatar Airways. Following this, the remains of the nine individuals from Parachinar were dispatched to their hometowns. The local administration oversaw the transportation and ensured that the bodies were laid to rest in their ancestral graveyards.

Kurram Deputy Commissioner Ashfaq Ahmed confirmed that the remaining four bodies are expected to arrive in Islamabad shortly. Subsequently, arrangements have been made for their transfer to Parachinar by helicopter for burial rituals. The families of the deceased are beset with sorrow, mourning the sudden and tragic loss of their loved ones.

Among the deceased was Abid Hussain, a 20-year-old whose brother, Mushahid Hussain, expressed his devastation at the loss, sharing, “His death has shattered our home.” Similarly, Saber Hussain mourned his younger brother, Asif, who had left in search of better opportunities amid local insecurity. Mukhtar, brother of Ashfaq Hussain, echoed this grief, lamenting, “Ashfaq’s death has devastated our family. He was not even married yet.”

This tragedy has highlighted the dire circumstances faced by many individuals seeking a better life, as the families grapple with the painful reality of their loved ones having perished in their pursuit of safety and opportunity.
