Tropical system “HONDE” has developed into a category 2 cyclone in the southern Mozambique Channel and is projected to intensify further. The storm is moving away from the coast, yet it is expected to generate winds of up to 110 km/h and wave heights of 10 meters, along with heavy rains and thunderstorms.

The tropical system named “HONDE” has recently escalated to a category 2 cyclone, located in the southern region of the Mozambique Channel. Over the past 24 hours, the storm has exhibited significant development, increasing in intensity with expectations for further strengthening in the near term.

The National Institute of Meteorology (INAM) forecasts that the cyclone will maintain a northwest-southeast trajectory while distancing itself from the Mozambique coast. Nevertheless, cyclonic winds are expected to reach speeds of up to 110 km/h, with gusts potentially reaching 155 km/h.

As a result of these conditions, INAM has issued warnings regarding rough seas, producing waves that may reach heights of up to 10 meters. Additionally, heavy rainfall and severe thunderstorms are anticipated over the marine areas as the cyclone progresses.
