The agreement now awaits ratification from the presidents of both countries.

The tension along the border had previously escalated to deadly clashes, most notably in September 2022, wherein over 100 individuals lost their lives and approximately 140,000 residents were forced to evacuate. Similar violence occurred in April 2021, leading to around 20 fatalities and over 200 injuries. The recent resolution aims to stabilize the region and enhance inter-ethnic relations.
