Sarasota County Engages Community on Spending Federal Hurricane Recovery Funds
Sarasota County is conducting community meetings and a survey regarding the spending of federal hurricane recovery funds through the Resilient SRQ initiative. The input will assist in planning for recovery efforts following recent storms. Four public meetings are scheduled in February, and a survey is accessible until February 15.
Sarasota County officials are launching a series of community meetings and a public survey aimed at gathering input on the effective allocation of hundreds of millions of dollars in federal hurricane recovery funds. These initiatives are part of the Resilient SRQ relaunch, which seeks to determine the best strategies for recovery following Hurricanes Helene and Milton, as well as Tropical Storm Debby in 2024.
The Resilient SRQ program was established to facilitate the expenditure of $201.5 million in federal recovery funds following Hurricane Ian in 2022. Recently, Sarasota County officials received news that an additional $210 million will be allocated for recovery efforts after the recent storms in 2024 that inflicted significant flooding and wind damage across the region. Community input is essential to develop a comprehensive recovery plan addressing housing, infrastructure, and disaster mitigation needs.
The series of public meetings and the survey will play a crucial role in determining how Sarasota County utilizes federal funds for hurricane recovery. Community feedback combined with data collected from prior storm impacts will inform a strategic plan focused on housing, infrastructure improvements, and disaster preparedness.
