Jamilu Saidu has been arrested for allegedly killing Iliyasu Aminu at a wedding in Niger State. Tensions between two villages led to a violent altercation during the ceremony, where Saidu reportedly struck Aminu with a machete. He has confessed and is now in custody for further investigation.

The Niger State Police Command has apprehended Jamilu Saidu for allegedly murdering 30-year-old Iliyasu Aminu during a wedding ceremony in the Kumbashi District of the Mariga Local Government Area. Police Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed this incident in a statement released to PUNCH Metro on Sunday, noting that it transpired on a Saturday amidst a chaotic altercation between two villages.

According to Mr. Abiodun, the wedding was marred by a dispute involving residents from Yabawa and Ungwar Sarkin-Daji, which escalated into violence adjacent to the ceremony. Amid the turmoil, Saidu purportedly struck Aminu on the head with a machete, which ultimately resulted in Aminu’s death.

On January 18, 2025, at approximately 8 p.m., law enforcement officials from the Bangi Division apprehended Saidu for the homicide of Aminu. The investigation revealed that this violent outburst was due to existing tensions between the two villages. The suspect has since confessed to committing the crime and has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Minna for further investigation and prosecution.

Mr. Abiodun also indicated that Saidu was one of several individuals detained by the police for various offenses across Niger State, underscoring the ongoing security challenges in the region.
