Niger Police Successfully Rescue 23 Kidnap Victims
Police in Niger State rescued 23 kidnapping victims, including 19 passengers abducted from a bus traveling from Sokoto to Bayelsa. Four additional victims were kidnapped from another vehicle. The victims were medically treated before returning to Sokoto State.
In a significant operation, the police in Niger State successfully rescued 23 individuals from kidnapping situations. According to the police spokesperson, Wasiu Abiodun, 19 of the victims were passengers who had been abducted from a Toyota bus traveling from Sokoto to Bayelsa State. The operation commenced following reports of the kidnappings at Gidan-Kwakwa along the Tegina-Zungeru road. Upon receiving the distress signals, a specialized joint security tactical team was rapidly assembled to pursue the kidnappers. Pressing the captors led to the release of twelve victims, who were found abandoned in the Pangugari forest area of Rafi Local Government Area on November 2, 2024. As the efforts continued, the remaining seven victims were subsequently located and rescued later that evening. After receiving necessary medical attention at a nearby clinic, these individuals were released to return to Sokoto State on November 3, 2024. Additionally, it was reported that the kidnappers had attacked another vehicle, resulting in the abduction of four more victims traveling from Yawuri in Kebbi State to Asaba in Delta State. The police continue to operate against abduction incidents while ensuring the safety of the citizenry.
