Speaking in response to allegations made at a recent rally in Botswana led by former president Ian Khama, Sikhala emphasized that Zanu PF has allegedly dispatched agents to manipulate the upcoming elections in Botswana, scheduled for October 30, 2024, where incumbent President Mokgweetsi Masisi is seeking reelection. Sikhala claimed that under the leadership of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, Zanu PF has already been implicated in rigging the recent elections in Mozambique. Highlighting the expansive influence of the ruling party throughout Southern Africa, he asserted that “the rigging cancer has been spread throughout the region” and that Zanu PF’s actions might incite widespread animosity toward Zimbabweans residing abroad. Furthermore, Sikhala remarked upon the concerning involvement of Zanu PF members in Mozambique’s elections, where allegations of electoral fraud have emerged after numerous supporters of Zanu PF, including a former councilor, were reportedly seen voting for the ruling Frelimo party. The credibility of the Mozambican elections has thus been called into question. Sikhala strongly condemned Zanu PF, labeling it a threat not only to Zimbabwe but to the peace and stability of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) as a whole. He noted their disruptive presence during the elections in South Africa and warned of their continued machinations in Zambia, where they seem to support the controversial figure Edgar Lungu, a former president who has been criticized for his governance.
